Bench top steam sterilizers (class 'B') have been difficult to test with a Bowie-Dick Test Pack or various PCDs. EN 867-Part 5 & ISO 11140 defines a Helix PCD based Steam Penetration Test as an alternative for the original Bowie-Dick Test.

A Bowie-Dick Helix Test, for hollow loads and bench-top sterilizers (Class B) must be performed daily in the Bowie-Dick cycle. The Famos Bowie-Dick Helix Test gives accurate and reproducible results with the best interpretation of colour from YELLOW to BLACK. Ink is free from toxic components and gives an non-reversible colour change.
